Tea Time

GENRE: slow rock It's been long time since I've listened to something quite as grand as this. With the reverb, I can definitely tell that this was written for a gigantic crowd in a stadium arena. You can almost see the thousands of flickers of zippos and lighters across a raven black sea of bodies. Compared the previous song by Stevie Nicks, this has much more cheesy chords, riffs, and lyrics. But, they do it so well that it ends up in their favor. When you want to take a dive back into the 80's, I can't help but see this song taking its rightful place. You've got a sonic, tasteful solo befitting of its genre, Steve Perry (of course), and piercing synth sounds typical of the Journey style. Rating: 8/10

GENRE: indie, slow rock And now that we've re-calibrated, we have arrived back to that familiar indie sound. This time, there's a little twist in that this band is inspired by Twin Peaks, that one awfully slow-paced show with a feel for palpable tension. I mean, just look at the name of the band. My god, look at the album cover. It's a little excessive to me, personally. This particular song takes its main riff from the intro to the actual show. That repeating interval back and forth is so iconic, especially when the band has taken it to the point where a similar sound is used as well. I don't know if it's intentional, but this song drags just as much. I wish the tension was built slowly throughout. You kind of just drift along a stagnant wave when you listen to this song. At this point, why not just make it even longer than it is now? I guess, to that end, it's a proper adaptation inspired by a very eminent product. Rating: 5.5/10

GENRE: soft rock Considering what The Rolling Stones  are known for, I stand on the other side and find myself enjoying their slower material much more. Similar to Wild Horses , Angie  seems to be playing along the same vein, opting for emotional, moving chords paired along with Mick Jagger's beautiful, beautiful voice. At first glance, the song itself seems simple. But I believe that it is in its simplicity that it shines through as being more honest and meaningful.  There's not a lot going on in terms of instrumentation, but man is that one of its strengths. When you really just want to chill and hang out on a porch, I think this is one of the songs you want to be playing. Rating: 8/10 

genre: slow rock Branching off of yesterday's post comes a song that grew on me. I was really feeling the mood that All Yours/All Mine  was giving off. The song encapsulates the atmosphere of their band name. Listening to this just makes me want to lounge about, lethargic, relaxed, and at peace. The sun-drenched guitar leads, the composition of the drums, and the particular attitude of the singer all blend to form a picturesque vision of complacency. Although this song may seem outdated (almost anachronistic), it is nevertheless well-written and performed. I think this song fits well into my day-to-day, especially with how calm it is compared to the other songs I've been writing about. I'm interested to find more from them, because they seem to be on the up and coming. Although there's nothing groundbreaking with the particular song, it hits its strong points with finesse and honesty. That's the kind of music I'd like to see more of nowadays. Rating: 8/10 ...
