Day 12: Trois Heures Vingt by Celine Dion // 9

Surprise, surprise, Celine Dion can do so much more than she already seems to. This is such a beautiful song. I almost have no words (also because I'm pretty busy with school at the moment). The movement of chords as well as the instrumentation (especially the guitar) around the song is so emotional, conveying feelings of hope, peace of mind, melancholy, and longing-a mixed bag. Although I have no idea what she's saying (who knew she could sing in French!), that's what I'm interpreting. In fact, the language only adds to the charm and color of song. I would recommend giving a listen. I'm a sucker for these types of songs.

GENRE: indie pop Following along the vein that is bedroom pop and atmospheric, nebulous indie singers, we find ourselves with Baybee. Compared to other songs that fall under this umbrella, the guitar work is more prevalent, which I can really appreciate. Otherwise, it's a by the books song consistent with the genre. There are a few cool elements here and there that involve the drums and guitars, but other than that, I don't foresee any particularly memorable phrases from this song. In short, it came and went. I enjoyed it though. Rating: 7/10

Day 215: Noel's Theme - Final Journey -_AbstractSetOne by Naoshi Mizuta // 7

GENRE: chill, jazz Well, sometimes you get the funniest surprises when listening to music. I never knew that Final Fantasy XIII-2 would have an OST PLUS. The PLUS soundtrack includes a bunch of demos and extra soundtracks that never made it into the game, this being one of them. I mean, just look at the title. It looks like they didn't even give it a nicely wrapped name, it has a tag at the end of it! Anyway, the song itself I've heard, but this sort of twist on it, I haven't. It was quite a surprise to me at first, because it perfectly fits the general tone of the song. It's melancholic, sorrowful, and the soft jazz undertones really reflect and add a different color to this song. I'm digging this take on it. It's absolutely the type of song you would put on for a long night drive home or something. Rating: 7/10

Day 271: KILL THIS LOVE by BLACKPINK // 3

GENRE: k-pop I've been avoiding BLACKPINK  for the longest time because I already know how I'm going to feel about them. From the aesthetic, from the strong personality of the fan base, and the general state of k-pop. After listening one of their latest releases, my thoughts unsurprisingly remain the same. As you can see, they're quite aggressive. It's in all caps the entire time. Their music is in all caps too. It's just so loud, no dynamics, no nuance at all. I could maybe brush that off to pop songs in general. It's not supposed to be intimate. I just have a hard time assessing what makes this song so popular besides its booming bass, blaring horns, and dancing idols. Appealing the masses is the way to do it. Also, I abhor rapping in k-pop. It doesn't make sense to me with regards to the whole point and history of the art. Video's cool I guess. Rating: 3/10
