Day 135: Panama by Sports // 6
GENRE: indie pop
Wow, these guys sound like the perfect analog of a typical female-led indie band. Their sound is eerily familiar, with the exception of the deeper tones of their singers. Although on the moodier side of things, their laid-back tone is the perfect type to drive through town to.
The guitar harmonies and even the solo's got a dream-like quality to it as well. There's a particular, near-unstable interval in there (dominant 7th?) that gives it this twangy and wacky vibe. Yet, on top of the backdrop of this synth-heavy riff, it makes for an odd-tasting, but not foul, timbre and style that I imagine is unique to Sports. However, this song has only cemented my specificity in distinguishing songs I like. There's just not enough momentum that drives this song, which I understand is really not the original intent. They seem like a fun group of guys.
