Day 120: Win Win (feat. Tove Lo) by Diplo // 4.5

This is way out of my comfort zone, because I'm not familiar at all with what's objectively good within the realm of electronic music. Something that I've come to terms with though is the idea that your ears are your best tool. If it sounds good to you then what does it matter what is conventionally tasteful in the current industry.

With that said, I think this song isn't bad, but it's not necessarily stimulating. I've liked some of the stuff Tove Lo put out before, but she's not quite featured as prominently as I thought she'd be. Even if the song was written to be repetitive, it doesn't hurt to highlight the talent you bring in. Even then, the song itself is ok. I don't see anything wrong with it. That's more because of how little it does wrong, than how much it does right. That's a good trade-off, I guess.

GENRE: electronic I regarded FKA Twigs  as a more experimental electronic, modern artist. Today's song feels quite grounded in conventional techniques. Nothing stands out to me as groundbreaking or pushing the boundaries of the genre. I did not expect someone else to be featured on this album either. Day 309: White Gloves by Khruangbin // 5

GENRE: indie I can't quite my finger on why I find this three-piece so alluring. They've got a style to them that evokes a carefree sensibility. That much can be seen in their song, White Gloves . Apparently it's part their first album to feature vocals, and it's a welcome addition to the canvas. No one instrument stands out any farther and more unique than the others. Each instrument is featured and mixed pretty evenly, giving me a sense of noiselessness and soothing comfort. However, I think part of that plays against their favor. It plays more like a lo-fi ditty than a fully realized song. At about 3 and a half minutes, I would expect a bit more to be fleshed out. Rating: 5/10
